28 May Town Court Update- May 28th May 28, 2020 By Danyelle Barrett General 0 Court Updated Status: May 28, 2020 The Town of New Windsor Court Room is still closed until further notice for in-person trials, hearings, and pre-trial conferences, including Vehicle and Traffic Offenses, small claims, and summary proceedings. If you have received a suspension notice from DMV with an effective suspension date during the time of the courts closure, those suspensions have either been lifted or removed. If you are concerned about an unpaid fine please know the court will NOT be enforcing any penalties to unpaid fines during the courts closure. We will be extending payments a minimum of 30 days from the courts re-opening. ALL court matters have administratively been adjourned until further notice: **If you had a court date during the courts closure, or have an upcoming court date while the court remains closed, we will be sending each person a notice with a new court date once we get the directives that the courts can re-open. *** UPDATE: The Court Lobby will be open Monday through Friday 11 AM – 3 PM to file new cases, answering Vehicle and Traffic Tickets ( initial plea to the summons; providing documentation that insurance and/or registration was in effect when issued the VTL Summons; vehicle defect issues have been corrected and paying fines. Town Court Update - October 15th Court Updated Status: October 15, 2020 *** UPDATE: The Court Lobby will be open Monday through Friday 11 AM – 3 PM to file new cases, answering Vehicle and Traffic Tickets, which include: initial plea to the summons; providing documentation that insurance and/or registration was in effect when issued the VTL Summons; vehicle defect issues have been corrected and paying fines, along with any court filings. When visiting the court lobby 11 AM- 3 PM, you must enter through the front entrance of Town Hall. All court appearances 3 PM or later must enter through the side Courtroom entrance. The Town of New Windsor Court Room is currently limiting in-person appearances for criminal arraignments, hearings and trials, small claim matters, Town Code violations, vehicle and traffic and civil proceedings. Town Hall closed to public; Town Hall staff available via email, phone and websites Effective Thursday March 19 New Windsor Town Hall and Recreation Offices will be closed to the public. Employees will be available daily between 10am and 4pm to conduct business via phone, email and website. There is also a mail slot in the front door of town hall that is available for correspondence. Online services are available 24 hours a day at newwindsor-ny.gov. These include online utility bill payments, court fines and fees payments, online FOIL requests, online mapping, and more on our website. On Friday March 20 Town Hall and Recreation Offices will be closed for a deep cleaning and sanitization. Monday March 23 through Friday March 27, Town Hall and Recreation offices will be closed to the public, with employees available from 10am and 4pm to conduct business via phone, email and website. In addition, Supervisor Meyers is declaring a State of Emergency in the Town of New Windsor. THIS IS ONLY A FORMALITY, to ensure the Town is eligible for reimbursement for expenses occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it also removes restrictions on the bidding process. Town Encourages Less Visits to Town Hall Amid COVID-19 Pandemic Supervisor Meyers is requesting anyone who does not need to physically come to town hall to please conduct business through email or phone whenever possible. If you are paying your water bill, the bills can either be mailed in, dropped through the mail slot in the front door of town hall after hours, or given to the court officer at the front door during the hours of 11am-3pm. Town hall is still currently open to the public from 11am-3pm. For the safety of our employees and everyone visiting town hall, we are trying to reduce the number of people coming into town hall. New Windsor is currently the third highest in positive COVID-19 test results in Orange County. Court officers are still screening temperatures of all visitors and masks are required.
